Default New Mesmer Skill

Looking through what could make a mesmer more wanted in PVE groups, why not a Fear hex?

Fear {Elite}
For 1..5 seconds, you have 20..80% chance of inflicting fear into target foe.

Attribute: Fast Casting
Energy: 5
Cast: 1s
Recharge: 5s

This hex would make target foe flee from battle, much like the flee effect when mobs flee from an AoE effect. It would have no effect against bosses and PvP players. This would add a new role to mesmers, possible making them more wanted in PVE groups.

It would also be easy to implement the skill ingame, since it would make use of the existing fear effect already present ingame. Probably a 5 minute job for the dev team.

I'm sure some people would like this, but the one thing i hate is when the guy i want to kill runs away, especially the monks lol,

mind you if they ran away and didn't come back that would be cool, maybe i would be able to kill the acolytes in hard mode then

So don't use it on monks
Use it on the melees so you can focus on killing monks.

This could be pretty useful in protecting the party or giving it an enormous advantage. Fearing the Ele, Monk or ,in an extreme case, Assassin can turn the tide of battle.

The only problem with "fear" in other games is that fearing in a tight spot with a lot of aggro can backfire and attract more mobs basically spelling your doom.

You're right, like any skill it will have it's uses in some places while it could get really nasty if you do it too close to other enemy parties.

I guess you could combine with with skills like [skill]Enduring Toxin[/skill][skill]Shameful Fear[/skill] as well for some cheap damage while party focuses on other targets.

I would like to see this. And as someone mentioned this could cause over agro at times. Yes it could but thats part of balance. you have to learn when to cast and when not to. Casting this on the warriors or sins. then ganking the casters/monks would be fun and effective, and as it doesnt work in PvP no major griefs. And as its a hex the enemy could remove it. So it is a fair skill.

good idea Lexxor
